Here you can apply for a certified copy of a vitals record.

What Records are Available?

Immediate copies (same day)

  • Birth records are available for births occurring in Los Angeles County since 1962.
    • If the birth occurred from 1972 to 1977, the copy is not available the same day.
  • Death records are available for deaths occurring in Los Angeles County since 1995.
  • Marriage records are available for marriages where the license was issued in Los Angeles County since 1995.

Mailed copies

  • Birth records are available for births occurring in Los Angeles County since 1866.
  • Death records are available for deaths occurring in Los Angeles County since 1877.
  • Marriage records are available for marriages where the license was issued in Los Angeles County since 1852.

You must still come to the office in person to pay for mailed copies.

Informational certified copies are not available the same day.

Fees and Payments

Payment is non-refundable. A “No Record Statement” will be issued if the record is not found.

  • Authorized Certified Copy
    • Birth: $32 per copy
    • Death: $24 per copy
    • Marriage: $17 per copy

Payment Options

  • Cash
  • Check: Make payable to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. Valid identification, such as a driver's license, of the signer is required and must be presented at time of request. Out-of-state checks are accepted.
  • Money orders: Make payable to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.
  • Debit/Credit card: Accepted cards include Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express.

What should I do when the application is submitted?

After completing the application, you must visit a Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk office. Orders are not processed until payment is received.

Please bring the following items with you when you visit the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk:

  • Your application confirmation number
  • A valid photo ID
  • Sufficient payment for copy fees
